Although this is a tough time and it’s so hard to see your child being poked and prodded, it’s very encouraging to hear the long-term prognosis. We’re praying God will give you courage, wisdom and a sense of peace in this storm.

  32. Dear Dean, Cheris, and Sharmalia:

You will win this battle with God’s help and careful patient effort.

Be sure to take time for yourselves so you can be strong for Sharmalia. Getting through this is a long process and will require alot of determination.
You will find strength that you didn’t know you ever had along the way.

Also, being “positive” is great but that can be difficult when things get tough - I find it easier and more constructive to focus on staying *determined* to win the fight.

My wife has been fighting leukemia since 2002 too. Sharmalia is not alone in her fight and I would encourage you to reach out to other leukemia survivors and draw from their strength as well.

  37. Dearest Dean and Cheris,

Our heart has a huge bump at the current events, our prayers for you are daily, constant and intentional, our baby Sharmalia is at the top of our prayers:-).
I wish to be able to have the best words possible to share with you…to encourage you and to lift you up so your heart wouldn’t have a bump, but I know someone special with above powers that speaks to our ears, that speaks directly to us, and I would like to share with the both of you, what our loving Abba…Daddy brought to my thoughts this morning, John 14:1, Isaiah 41:10, Psalm 23, Hebrews 11:6, Joshua 1:8-9.
Our Lord is right beside the both of you and baby Sharmalia.

    We love you

I am so sorry for what you are going through with your precious little one — OUR precious little one. My heart and thoughts are with you all. (And yes, shock of all shocks, I even sent up a prayer or two.)

I am glad that Shawny is there with you now, and that Jerry is coming tonight to be with you. Mom and I put together a little care package for you, and sent it with him.

Glad to hear that grandparents are here with Sharmalia. We can imagine how happy Sharma is seeing all her favorite ones.

Sharma, we have no doubt that we’ll see you again soon; healthy and running around at home and church since you’re such a very strong young lady. Petitions of prayer from Christians and Non-Christians continue in Michigan, Hong Kong and Singapore for the Currys. Sending extra hugs and kisses.

  42. Dear Dean and family: The trucker Mikey called me to have me contact you, as he thought you brought us into G.E. Five years ago…I was so happy to find you and then very sorrowful to hear the news of your little darling daughter. Our grandaughter fell into a fire almost a year and a half ago and her hand and arm were destroyed. Dean, we know thiskind of pain with a little one and you, your wife and precious daughter will be in my prayers and my daughter and all her children are praying for Sharmalia to recover soon. The Lord works in love and prayers and you are getting much of both, I can see that from your web page. This will be a journey of Love and Faith that we will all participate in. Please know that I have thought of you through the years and wondered where you went and was so happy to find that you are in San Diego, as that is where Danny and I have been working every since you brought us into G.E. Things have changed drastically since Steve Wheeler left and we were looking for a new account. I worked with Deanna and Howard for twenty-five years…Will pray everyday for The Lord’s Great loving Mercy upon your daughter and will hope to hear from you eventually. Will read this web page to keep up on the prayer requests daily. She looks alot like you Dean! ALL OUR THOUGHTS AND PRAYERS, TERRI-MOD LADY…..dbrownterr@aol.com

You all were included again today in our special pray time at church. I have taked with (grandpa Jerry) and kept up with your progress. Henry has read part of your notes. Now we sat and read them all. You are a very brave little girl. I am sure that you know that you have a very special family that God gave you. Have fun and play when you can, then trust mommy and daddy when they tell you that the ‘yukie’ medicine will make you better. But sing ‘Jesus Loves Me’ and know that He is helping you most of all to get better. We pray for all of you every day! Hope your grandma fells better also. Henry & Kathy PS thanks for sharing pictures.

  61. Hi, Dean and Cheris, Grandma, and Sharmalia–just wanted to say what I know everyone says–we are thinking about you. We are and will be praying this week for the bone marrow test. There’s no words, just love and hope and prayer for all of you. Give yourselves a hug from us. And my favorite Bible verse: “There is no one like the God of Israel who rides through the heavens to help you…. The eternal God is your refuge, and underneath are the everlasting arms.” Deuteronomy 33:26-27. That got me through a lot of hard times.

  65. Hi, Curry’s!

Just wanted you to know I’m thinking about you. I just saw Melissa’s latest update and will be praying extra hard. I thank God for blessing you with your new home and job, I know He will walk you through this transition. We love you so much! Happy Sabbath, Sharma!

  66. It was so good to see you all at church yesterday. Truly, if simply caring with all our hearts could erase Sharmie’s cancer she’d be in perfect health. But we have a perfect Father God who is in control and precious Sharmie is safely snuggled in his arms of great love. Please continue to hold on to that. And we all will hold on to that for you as well.

  67. Hi Curry Family,

Just wanted you to know that your dear sweet Sharma and both of you are in my daily thoughts and prayers. Please do not hesitate to ask me for anything. I would love to help however I can. Love, Tracy

  68. Cheris,

When I saw you last week you asked me to remind you of the dates of Relay for Life. It’s April 28-29 at Orange Glen High in Escondido. If you and Sharma are up to it we’d love to see you there. However, if Sharma starts her chemo this week or next I can definitely see how that wouldn’t happen. Either way, please know that you all will be in our thoughts during that event and that there will be people walking in support of Sharma!

    God bless!

  72. Hi Curry Family

I wanted to pass on this email below from our family friend, Selene Valle of Los Angeles who will be running the San Diego Rock n Roll Marathon on Sunday the 3rd of June.
She is running for a few friends including Sharmalia and will have her name printed on her t-shirt.
We continue to stand by you all with our prayers and thoughts.

    Tricia, Karl and Keyona Muller

    Dear Friends and Family,

As many of you already may know, I have taken a great interest in training for marathons. I found a sport that is both challenging and rewarding. It started with a personal goal of completing one marathon.

In 2003, I completed the Kona Marathon in 4 hrs and 45 min, and swore I would never run another marathon. In 2004, I received a Leukemia and Lymphoma Society’s Team In Training (TNT) flyer and thought “’why not another one?’”. Since then, I have dedicated myself to training for marathons to benefit the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. They trained me for San Diego Rock N’ Roll Marathon in 04, 06 and for L.A. Marathon in 05. I helped raise funds and awareness for research leading to a cure for Leukemia and other blood related cancers.

Blood cancers, such as Leukemia, are the #1 killer of children. Every five minutes, someone in the United States learns that he or she has leukemia, Hodgkin, or non-Hodgkin lymphoma or myeloma. Every ten minutes, another life is lost to a form of blood cancer. The best thing about TNT is that it makes us feel less helpless, while we train our fundraising goes toward the cure.

I am blessed with my health and a fun filled life; TNT is my way of giving back. This year I am back with The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society’s Team In Training and decided to conquer San Diego again. On Sunday June 3, 2007 I will run the SD Rock N’ Roll Marathon and I am determined to beat my best time of 4hrs. 20 min.

I will be running in honor of Le Roy Smith, “Maria Montag”, and others like them, who are the real heroes. Maria was diagnosed with non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma in December 1998 and since 2001 has been running and raising funds for cancer research. Just recently, my Uncle Nick’s stepfather, “Charles Cocking”, was diagnosed with Hodgkin lymphoma. He is currently undergoing treatment. In addition, two-year-old Sharmalia Curry was diagnosed with Leukemia and is currently undergoing treatment. I am racing in their honor as well.

I am determined to meet my fundraising goal of $2,400 for this cause, and need your support in reaching this goal. Your secure online tax-deductible donation will help fund lifesaving research, education, and patient services while providing help and hope to thousands. Every dollar is one-step toward a cure. http://www.active.com/donate/tntgla/tntglaSValle2 . I must meet my goal by June 23, 2007. I can also collect cash or personal checks payable to: Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.

To learn more about the Society’s mission, please click on the link above, “Visit Team in Training”.

Thank you for your time and support!

  74. Hi Curry Family,
Welcome to the Pacific Northwest! I enjoyed meeting you today at church. Sharmalia, you are an amazing little girl, I am so sorry that you have to go through all the pokes and owies that go along with being sick this way but I know that you are strong and brave little girl and your mommy and daddy and Jesus and His angles are taking care of you and Jesus is holding you in His arms. Cheris and Dean, I am sorry that you had to add moving to a new state to the seemingly overwhelming task of caring for a seriously ill child but I am glad you decided to move to our community. Please let me know how I can support you.

  75. Hi, Dean and Cheris and Charmalia–we have moved also–to Guildford, England for six months. I just want you to know that even in England we are praying for you and thinking about all of you. I know what you mean about rain and sunshine in the same day–there’s a lot of that going on around here as well. Thanks for sharing your journey on the website. May God send those angels to be around all of you and keep you safe.

We miss you all soooooo much!!! I just read your latest update and it breaks my heart to hear all the pain you and Sharmi are going through. You continue to be in our prayers regularly. Please give Sharmi a hug and kiss for us and tell her her friends in Temecula love her. We pray that God will send great healing into her body this week and that the mouth sores will go away and Sharmi’s appetite will return. May God’s peace and strength continue to fill you, Dean and Cheris and guide you as parents through this difficult time.

  78. Dearest Cheris and Sharmie,

I think about you all daily and send prayers to Sharmie’s Jesus that He will help her feel better and so she can “do” things that she “can’t” do now. I am happy that she has her play times with her toys and with daddy. It is time to leave work and I have to lock up so I will have to do more next week. I love you all and pray that little sister will appear “softly into the day light”
Have a nice family weekend and God bless you all

  84. Hi you guys,
It is Wednesday the 28th of November. When did the month go anyway?? I just caught up on your letters of November. I spent 2 weeks in Equador end of Sept first of Nov. on a mission trip. When I got back my dad had been in the hospital draining fluid from his lungs. When he got home he was put on hospice and as you know that is the beginning of the end. I flew up TG eve and got home last eve the 27th. It was a good bye visit as I know the next time I see him will be in heaven. He is SOOOO ready to go!!
You have had your hands full as usual I read. God is definately watching over all of you. I pray all the infections are cleared up, that there is no breast cancer and that our sweet Sharmie is back on an even keel so to speak. God has blessed you with a wonderfully calm agreeable baby..and I thank Him. I would love to be in the right place at the right time in December to be able to see you, maybe with J & Y God willing. I have another flight scheduled Dec 27th to the 1st.of January. I am sure it will be for a memorial service and to help mom sort things out. God’s will be done. I do still pray for all of you daily, give Sharmalia my love. Merry Christmas to you all.
    Love Pat

  85. Dear friends,
It was lovely seeing you here in California and having sabbath dinner with you even tho’ we were scattered all over the house. Oh well, there were many friends to visit. Sharmalia is looking well and growing and appeared to be having a good time in Escondido. I hope she enjoyed the “zoo-park” and took her nap on the way per her quote. Chantel is a beautiful baby girl and when she can crawl Sharmalia will enjoy her more.
My father died on Dec 5 and his memorial service is the 28th. in Paradise. I fly up on the 27 and return on the 1st.
Have a wonderful white christmas and I hope the relapses and fever remain at bay!!
You are still in my prayers.

    Love Pat

  89. Hi Cheris,
My body is showing signs of getting stronger as time goes by, from my 90 degree spinal curve which my surgeons straightened as much as they could with heavy duty hardware.
I check in now and then to see how things are going for you and your family and your parents and your brother and his own little family. It looks like Sharmi will overcome her cancer!! I sure hope and prayed for that result!!

  90. Hi Cheris,

Just wanted you to know that I think of you guys, and appreciated the opportunity to see your website and catch up on how your darling girl is doing. I’m glad you had the stress relief of some great vacations this year, and that she appears (despite the shingles) to be doing so well. I will pray for a complete recovery!
